The company founders, Anthony Richards MA and Wendy Harbutt, have a passionate belief in the power of experiential learning and considerable experience in its application in a range of settings. Anthony and Wendy come from very different backgrounds and their skill sets complement to create an unmatched platform of knowledge to help create the intervention which is right for you.
The most important factor is the selection of the right roleplay actor or facilitator for each intervention or engagement. This choice is made with utmost care and consideration to ensure that the Dramatic Improvement excellence is experienced by every person we work with. The Dramatic Improvement stable of actors and facilitators are all highly skilled and bring their backgrounds and experience from the public and private sectors.

Anthony’s leading interest is in human communication and mis-communication. He trained as a Theatre Director at the University of Kansas and for 18 years was the Director of a theatre company, touring the UK. As well as acting, writing and directing, Anthony has also taught in Higher Education and describes himself as a ‘devisor of bespoke ways of using theatre’. For performance Anthony has created over 20 productions created through improvisational processes and uses this method to ensure that interactions are as spontaneous and ‘real feeling’ as possible. His experience in coaching good performances from actors translates into the ability to deliver incisive and clear feedback to delegates, in a style which they hear and can act upon.
Wendy has run two parallel careers; one in the corporate sector with over 17 years in business, specialising in communication, the other in improvisational theatre as an actor, writer and director. Wendy’s skills are a complimentary mix of applied drama and business knowledge. She studied Business Management/Marketing Management at the University of Gloucestershire and has held senior roles in the telecoms/tech sector. This business background provides Wendy with real world insight into the scenarios used for assessment and development. She is fluent in the language of business and is definite about the need for interventions to add value – at every level.
